Chablis 'Clos Beru' Monopole, Château de Beru 2008
The minerality in this wine makes it a perfect accompaniment to seafood, especially shellfish. The weight and texture however, means it will also match to creamy pasta or chicken dishes too.
Chateau de Beru has been in the family of the Counts of Beru since 1627 and winemaking has been a constant activity. There was a lapse during the phylloxera outbreak at the end of the 1800s but it recommenced in 1938 with a small replanting and the status of Appellation Controlee. Count Eric de Beru really put the Chateau on the winemaking map in the 1980's but it was his daughter, Athenais, who saw the promise in the terroir they had around them. She invested in developmentof the vineyard and was certified organic in 2005 before boasting their first biodynamic vintage in 2010.
The complexity, the roundness and the dominating mineral notes characterise the Clos Béru 2008. It expresses the typical flintiness found in wines from limestone rich soils. The balance between minerality, crispiness, fruit character and richness are the promise of an exceptional vintage with great ageing potential.
